It can be really easy to get carried away with spending money on a night out and the next day find that you have gone beyond your budget or just do not have enough left for other things you needed or wanted to buy. You may feel that you will need to stop going out altogether if you want to make sure that you do not spend too much. Although this is a possible option, it can be better to control your spending while you are out so that you can still have the fun of doing it but not overspend.
Set a budget
It is a good idea to start by deciding how much you can afford to spend. Find out what money you have and then use this to base your budget on. Make sure that you allow for other things that you will need to buy before you next get paid. It could take time to analyse your finances like this, but it will be worth it as it could stop you having to borrow money to keep yourself going close to payday. As you get more familiar with your household finances it will be easier to do this as you will be more aware of what payments you have going out and when. You will need to think though about how often you might want to go out in a month and make sure that you spread your budget across all of the occasions when you want to go out.
Consider using cash only
One way to make sure that you cannot spend more than you intend is to spend only cash. If you take cash but leave your cars at home, then you will not be able to spend more money than you can afford. If you have a card with you, then it can be so easy to keep using it without monitoring how much you are spending or checking that you can afford what you are spending.
Ask friends to help
When you out with others then it can be easy to get carried away with them and keep on buying food and drink or entry into different places. Once you have a few drinks it can be even harder to keep track of it all. Therefore, it can be a good idea to see whether you an get your friends on board with helping you. It could be that they need help as well as they might get carried away with their spending as well, it could be good if you are able to help each other.
Eat and drink a bit before you go
It can be a good idea to save some money by having some food and drink at home before you go. Obviously, these will still cost money but it could mean that you will not need to spend as much when you are out as you will not need so much. Eating out can be significantly more expensive than eating at home and the cost of drinking could be even higher. So, if you have some at home first, then you will not need to buy as much when you are out. This will only work though if you do reign things in when you are out. If you still eat and drink as much then you will actually end up spending more money.
Carefully choose cheaper activities
It can be worth looking at the prices of different things before you go out. This means that you might be able to choose cheaper venues or activities so that you can save money. It can be tricky, once you are out, to not be persuaded by others to go to certain places. If you can agree beforehand as to where you want to go, then this could help you to keep the costs down.
Go to cheaper towns or areas of town
It may just be a case of going to cheaper towns or areas of towns. It could be that you will know that some places locally are likely to be a lot more expensive than others. Maybe going to a different town where everything is cheaper or focusing on a certain area which has cheaper places could be the way to go. You should be able to research prices online and that will enable you to decide where the best locations might be for you to focus on so that you are not spending more than you can afford.
There are a lot of possible options available. It is good to think about which might suit you the best with regards to your current lifestyle. Hopefully there will be something that you will be able to change that will not feel too difficult but will mean you can still enjoy yourself.
