Combat Stress:
Combat Stress
is a mental health charity that offers specialist services
for ex-military and Merchant Navy personnel, providing continuing care for the
ex-Service community alongside the NHS.
Our aim is to facilitate the recovery from psychological distress caused
or aggravated by active Service. This is achieved through two means:
- A community-based welfare service, and
- treatment within one of our three inpatient centres, which are supported
by visiting consultant psychiatrists and full-time clinical psychology input.
Clients attending one of our treatment centres have access to evidenced-based
therapies such as CBT and EMDR, in addition to creative therapies including art
psychotherapy, educational groups about mental health issues and opportunities to
get involved in activities such as painting and woodwork, thus providing a safe
and therapeutic environment in which clients can mix with other ex-military men
and women.
Referrals are accepted from GPs, NHS departments, social services,
charities, veterans themselves and their friends/family. Within 8 weeks of
receiving a referral, the client will be visited at home by one of our welfare
officers who will assess whether
Combat Stress is an appropriate service to
meet the individual′s needs.
